Why Salla?

Sorsatunturi (direct translation would be Fell Duck) is situated in Tuntsa-area and is the highest peak in Eastern Lappland. That is probably the reason we usually end up there. Scenery is also stunning and half of the fell is actually in Russian side. The border line cuts the fell “Duck” in half.

Tuntsa-area is interesting becouse sometimes in the 60’s there were massive forest fires. Thousands of hectares forest was destroyed and it never grow back. Nowadays there are trunks and branches everyvwhere but no trees at all. Scenery is beautifull and terrain easy to walk. One of my favourite places to visit short trips.

Salla has been a good destination also to train the dgos since my good friend Reeta lived there several years. Countless miles have we carted and sledded near Salla village during past years.
