Finnrock winter
Triathlon
february 2006 – Niklas, Emma Luka and Megi Training, Racing, Evaluating First time I took a part to a sled dog competition nome-style
in spring 2003. My team was malamutes Otto and Ruufus. Despite the facts that
we were placed last in the competition, got only degree “good” from the
racing test and it really didn’t quite reach me how all this competing-thing
should be done… I was convinced that racing with a dog-team was great fun! After this I naturally found myself looking for a
new puppy during the summer 2003. Kennel Hauenkuonon got an interesting combination that summer and I managed to buy a
bitch, Agnes. Fall 2003 and following winter I also had a chance to use
Agnes’s mother “Leidi” in my team. That way I had instantly 3 dogs in my team
while waiting Agnes to grow up. At the same time I had another puppy growing
to be a part of my future team as I had gathered greenland dog Niklas from Hauenkuono’s Canadian import Leidi was the first
step in a co-operation between Finnrock and kennel Hauenkuonon. Leidi was
with us season 2003-04, nice Danish bitch Emma seasons 2004-06 and American
import Megi season 2005-06. The same season 2005-06 we also got extra
strenght from the North, since kennel Tulisalo let us use their Polish import
Luka in the team. During these years my original team Otto and Ruufus
were used mainly teaching the new-comers how to become professional sled dogs
witch is really a challenge to do only in 4 months before the first start in
a race… Otto and Ruufus are both highly merited in sled dog competitions and
tests but appeared to became too slow when the teams
speed rised year after year. During these years my grown-up puppies Agnes and
Niklas performed nicely in the team and got as well racing merits as all the
sled dog test merits possible. I’m very interested in training and testing
malamutes in sledging and at the same time continously develop myself in
handling dogs, teams and the pack at home. I try to use all the dogs I have
in several competitions and all three tests there are in Things
change as the years go by… Photos from the way:

Fall 2006 team II Ruufus, Otto, Agnes, Neea and Nasta
I would NOT tie myself behind this team with skies
and head out to narrow snowmobiletracks. But he got the ride he asked fore. only one broken skiing stick in the end. A true miracle
that no bones were broken. Niklas and Finka had a nice run and great change
for our daily routins january 2007.
This is so sure team that the skier can just enjoy
those sunny days and scenery. Skiing with Ruufus and Otto near home febrary 2007

So happened in February 2008 that I actually took a
tour with a pure 4-malamute team! Got 2 new dogs and tested them in slower team first.

My 6-dog team february 2008 misses Mona here… She
got lightly bitten in the nose and rested a couple of
days just to be sure she’s ok. Team here is Puh, Finka, Niklas, Megi, Dara
and Kiti. |
